Install Google Chrome in Kali Linux with Root Permission

Kali Linux is the improved version comes from backtrack the most advanced and penetration testing advance OS of Linux based Kernel. Alike other Ubuntu and Linux OS Google Chrome isn’t built in, in this version of Backtrack. After Installing Kali Linux have to install Google Chrome but the root user permission is the problem to open/run Google chrome in this version of Backtrack(Kali Linux). When a user after installing Google Chrome tries to open/run it, an exception comes up and says

Google Chrome can not be run as Root user

Please Start Google Chrome as a normal user. To run as Root, you must specify an alternate –user–data-Dir for storage of profile information.

So, Normal user account isn’t has the privileges on Kali Linux, So, as a Root user you must specify an alternate user data directory for storage of profile information’s. How to Install Google Chrome In Kali Linux:

• Download Google Chrome latest Debian version from Official website of Google Chrome [Click on the below picture to go to Google Chrome Download Link]

• Click to Download the Google Chrome Stable Debian Package suitable with Kali Linux version and save.

• After Download Open with GDebi Package installer and Install.

• Now from the Applications > Internet Launch Google Chrome.

• An exception appears said before at the starting in this article.

So for this exception we need to use alternate user-data-dir for storage of profile information also without this alternate directory for storage of profile information we can not run Google chrome directly in Kali Linux. We can use alternative method without fixing this exception.

First of All, Run Terminal and then Just Grab the shortcut icon of Google Chrome on the terminal and press enter. It will force Google chrome to run as a normal user and Google chrome will definitely run.

But in this method every single time user have to grab the Google Chrome Icon to run with terminal and there will be no history stored in your Linux OS after exit the Browser.

Step 1: Go to File System > opt > Google > chrome

After installing Google Chrome Go to this directory and find a file named “Google-chrome“

Step 2:

Open “Google-chrome” with Leafpad to edit.

Step 3:

After Opening with Leafpad find this below code [Probably this line would be found at the bottom of this file, almost line number 42]

exec -a “$0″ “$HERE/chrome” “$PROFILE_DIRECTORY_FLAG” \

Step 4:

Now, Just replace the upper line with the below line:

exec -a “$0″ “$HERE/chrome” “$@” –user-data-dir “$PROFILE_DIRECTORY_FLAG” \

Step 5:

Now save this file and exit from Leafpad.

Now Run Google Chrome Smoothly. Any exception will not appear.
